📝 ‘Adrian came and carried a diagnostic and a clean on our Audi Q7, with 170K on the clock. He also advise a thermostat swap which we had done. I took the Q7 for a good run to work a couple of days after the clean and changing the thermostat. It ran smooth and when I booted it there was no black smoke from the over fueling we had discussed. Also the mpg has gone up to a nice 36 mpg compared to mid 20’s before. I am well pleased with the results.‘ ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
⚠️ Fuel economy not what it should be? Vehicle not as quiet, smooth or responsive as it used to be?
🚗 Here we have an Audi Q7 3.0 TDI (2008 – 169,720 miles) booked in due to declining fuel economy, black smoke on acceleration, but otherwise’ running great’. The owner had noticed the vehicle taking a while to warm up and so had already lined up a thermostat replacement.
🔎 Initial inspection of the engine bay found little of note. An underlying bass note indicated a fair amount of buildup present.
💻 Initial diagnostics scan found a few historic issues which we documented and cleared for the owner.
📊 Live data confirmed the vehicle struggling to maintain temperature with a maximum of 84°C which plummeted rapidly with the fans turned back on. All other data looked fine though.
👨🔧 With the vehicle back up to temperature it was on with the clean. The bass note in the engine soon subsided and by the end was quiet, smooth and responsive again.
