Failed MOT – Ford Mondeo 2.0 TDCi (2005 – 138,536 miles) – diagnostic and Engine Carbon Clean

⚠️ MOT or Service Due? Get it checked out and cleaned up to identify underlying issues and get it running back to its best.

🚗 Here we have a Ford Mondeo 2.0 TDCi (2005 – 138,536 miles) booked in for diagnostic consultation and Engine Carbon Clean after it had FAILED MOT on emissions.

🔎 Initial inspection found no major issues in the engine bay with no rattles or leaks, but a significant rumble from the carbon present.

💻 Initial diagnostics showed no errors in the engine section, or the other sections of the vehicle.

📊 Live data monitoring showed the engine coolant initially maxing out at 87°C. After the thermostat test this did finally rise to 98°C, so likely sticking slightly. Injector fuelling showed an overfuel on injector 1, but not big enough to cause a misfire for example.

👨‍🔧 On with the clean and the engine soon smoothed out and quietened down significantly and by the end it was quieter, smooth and responsive again.

The owner can now take back for retest and if still struggling then get the thermostat and injector looked at.
