Engine Carbon Clean on an Audi A4

⚠️ Vehicle not as quiet, smooth, responsive or economical as it used to be?

Here we have an Audi A4 2.0 TDI (2007 – 73,396 miles).

ℹ️ Having recently passed its MOT without any advisories, but getting thirsty on fuel and with a slight judder during the engine warm up process.

Initial inspection noted two particular issues. An excessive vibration from the auxiliary belt tensioner and an underlying wobble at idle from early stages of engine mount wear. This is something we see regularly with the 2.0 TDI engines.

Initial diagnostics came up clear in terms of engine codes with just the one logged in the brakes section when it was stalled just that morning.

Live data monitoring showed a decent correlation between desired vs actual exhaust gas flow through the EGR indicating it was functioning as expected. Coolant temperature levels were steady in and around a healthy 90°C and all other sensors appeared to be fine. DPF was in good order also. The only thing of note was the injection deviation amounts were somewhat erratic on idle. This could well be a result of the combination of tensioner and engine mount wobble/vibration.

‍On with the Audi A4 Engine Carbon Clean and although not as bad as some 2.0 TDIs we visit this one had a bass note in it which subsided as we progressed and as the overall engine vibration went the tensioner vibration and mount wobble remained – something the owner can now get addressed.

This was my first experience with F5 carbon and DPF clean. I was a little desperate as I had been let down twice by a larger franchise company. Mark the technician managed to fit me in at short notice, what a stroke of luck for me I found Mark to be an extremely knowledgeable and professional guy. After running the diagnostic and clearing a few issues he managed to get my DPF working properly and able to do the regeneration process on its own so only charged for the diagnostic even though I had booked for a full DPF cleaning. I cannot recommend F5 enough it's a real pleasure to deal with them. All round excellent service. Thank you guys.

Adrian is a lovely fella, explained the process, carried it out well, clearly done exactly what it needed to do as I blew a load of stuff out the back when I drove it after. Will definitely be coming back in the future.

Steve arrived to give my Jaguar xfs an engine carbon clean. Presently on 107,000 miles. Explained the process and was obviously very knowledgeable about the process and expected outcomes. And he was a thoroughly nice chap.
The V6 in the xfs is a quiet, smooth, powerful unit and I was not sure of what improvements I would get. Well, I’m impressed. The power delivery is smoother, the engine even quieter and 6 mpg better to boot.
If you want to do one thing to maintain and improve your motor, then this is what you should do.

Iv had the pleasure of having 2 Carbon cleans from both Adrian and Mark. Both lovely gentlemen and you can tell they love what they do. My car failed on emissions and this helped me get the car through the test, and at the time, I REALLY needed a pass because I couldn’t get anywhere. These guys saved me.
