⚠️ Vehicle not as quiet, smooth, responsive or economical as it used to be? Smoking issues? Not running right?

Here we have a VW Transporter 2.5 TDI (2005 – 269,542 miles) booked in for diagnostics and Engine Carbon Clean.

ℹ️ The owner booked us in due to having smoking issues, poor fuel economy, a limp mode issue and given the age and mileage wanted it cleaned up also.

Initial inspection found a quite heavy smell, a noisy engine and not running particularly smooth, but no obvious leaks.

Initial diagnostics found a code present for Cylinder 5 Pump/Injector Valve Control Limit exceeded.

Live data monitoring showed a number of issues. Looking at the injector fuelling it was showing injector 5 in excess of 2mg/stroke and after already being at maximum learning limit was over fuelling considerably. The other main issue was that even after being driven for 10 minutes before we arrived the coolant temperature was only at 58°C. We warmed it up as much as possible and got it to a temperature where it would clean properly, but its clearly needs a new thermostat.

‍On with the clean and due to running cool it took a little longer, but by the end was much quieter, far less smell and much smoother and responsive.

ℹ️ The injector was still over fuelling indicating this potentially needs replacing. It was still not running at its best due to running cooler than it should so with both of these issues addressed along with the clean should be running much sweeter.

Steve arrived to give my Jaguar xfs an engine carbon clean. Presently on 107,000 miles. Explained the process and was obviously very knowledgeable about the process and expected outcomes. And he was a thoroughly nice chap.
The V6 in the xfs is a quiet, smooth, powerful unit and I was not sure of what improvements I would get. Well, I’m impressed. The power delivery is smoother, the engine even quieter and 6 mpg better to boot.
If you want to do one thing to maintain and improve your motor, then this is what you should do.

Iv had the pleasure of having 2 Carbon cleans from both Adrian and Mark. Both lovely gentlemen and you can tell they love what they do. My car failed on emissions and this helped me get the car through the test, and at the time, I REALLY needed a pass because I couldn’t get anywhere. These guys saved me. Today Adrian from F5 Carbon7 DPF Clean came to de carbonise my xc60 he arrived bang on time he was very courteous and explained in great detail what the process was .
He set up within 5 minutes and went on to the diagnostics and talked me through what was coming up after a reset all was clear. It took about 1 hour in total great job well happy would definitely recommend Adrian well mannered gentleman.
