â ī¸ Vehicle not as quiet, smooth, responsive or economical as it used to be? Just bought a vehicle or service/MOT due?
đ Here we have a returning customer with a new acquisition – VW Golf 2.0 TDI (2010 – 109,778 miles) booked in for diagnostics consultation and Engine Carbon Clean.
âšī¸ The owner wanted to get it checked out and cleaned up, but also wanted an engine management light issue investigating when starting to move in reverse.
đ Initial inspection found little of note in the engine bay with no obvious rattles, leaks. A typical bass note to the engine which was to be expected given the age and mileage.
đģ Initial diagnostics found a code in the engine section – turbo control position sensor circuit range/performance. The code would only trigger when placed into reverse and then starting to move – a reasonable explanation for this would be the gear selector mechanism on the manual gearbox somehow moving or chafing a wiring loom causing the code to pop. The owner can thankfully get this looked at under warranty.
đ Live data monitoring showed the DPF was pretty healthy with 49 miles since the last regeneration, nice low DPF backpressure and soot levels and good injector fuelling levels. The vehicle took a while to warm up and the temperature dis drop a little further than we would like when testing the thermostat, but it did recover soon enough.
đ¨âđ§ On with the clean and the bass note soon dissipated as the engine smoothed out and by the end it was quiet, smooth and responsive again.
