📝 ‘Cant fault the service from Adrian who was very pleasant and explained everything he was doing. I also learnt that I need to keep at least a quarter of a tank of fuel in the car otherwise the DPF doesn’t get a cleaning cycle, something I was not aware off! Adrian did a full diagnostic check and with no faults found the clean was started. On my first drive after the clean I noticed that the engine was more responsive and smooth and the delay in power when changing gear had also gone, which I was very happy about. 🚗 Here we have a Vauxhall Astra 2.0 CDTI (2010 – 45,321 miles) booked in for diagnostics consultation and Engine Carbon Clean.
ℹ️ The owner had previously had to have the DPF unblocked about a year ago and after some recent recall work wanted to get it checked out and cleaned up for the road ahead.
🔎 Initial inspection found little of note in the engine bay with no obvious rattles and leaks and the engine running pretty nicely.
💻 Initial diagnostics found a number of historic codes present relating to fuel pressure, 5V reference and EGR control – these were documented and cleared for the owner and did not return throughout the duration of the booking.
📊 Live data monitoring showed all live data looking good with good coolant temperature levels, low back pressure in the DPF and recent regeneration.
ℹ️ One point of note was the average regeneration distance was a little high and after discussing with the owner he does tend to let the fuel levels get very low. If the fuel level is low then the vehicle won’t regenerate, so ideally always keep the fuel levels above ¼ tank to ensure it can regenerate at every opportunity.
👨🔧 On with the clean and although the vehicle was running pretty sweetly it soon smoothed out, quietened down and by the end was quiet, smooth and responsive again.
