⚠️ Just bought a vehicle? Not as quiet, smooth, responsive or economical as it should be or just want peace of mind?
🚗 Here we have a Skoda Fabia VRS 1.9 TDI (2006 – 104,890 miles) booked in for diagnostics and Engine Carbon Clean. The owner has used us previously and having only just purchased this one wanted to get us in ASAP. He had found some black smoking issues and also poor fuel economy.
🔎 Initial inspection found a slight wobble from the right hand side of the engine and a skipping noise on idle. The clutch was obviously catching on idle and the wobble was from engine mount wear.
💻 Initial diagnostics found only two codes relating to battery and interior sensors which we documented and cleared.
📊 Live data showed straight away one of the main reasons why the engine had worn the engine mounts and why there was black smoke and poor MPG – the vehicle was running cold. The hottest we could get it to was 79°C. The injector fuelling also confirmed the wobble on the right hand side of the engine with the increased fuelling on injector 4.
👨🔧 We managed to keep it to 79°C and this was just about warm enough to clean it up properly so we proceeded with the clean. Within 10 minutes the engine vibration had lessened to the point that the clutch was no longer skipping on idle. The owner can now get the following addressed…

2️⃣ Engine mounts looked at
3️⃣ Clutch dealt with when necessary
By the end it was nice and quiet again, smooth and responsive again.
