đ Here we have a modified Ford Mondeo 2.2 TDCi (2010 – 124,845 miles) booked in for a diagnostic consultation and Engine Carbon Clean.
âšī¸ The owner booked it in having used us previously and wanted to get this one checked out and cleaned up for the road ahead. He had noticed the fuel economy starting to drop away.
đ Initial inspection found little of note in the engine bay with no obvious rattles, leaks or other issues of note. Having just had a new water pump fitted the coolant looked on the low side and needed topping up, but there was enough to perform the clean. Not too much noise from this engine indicating it was running fairly well already.
đģ Initial diagnostics found lots of old historic codes since the last time it had been checked and cleared and many were related to some of the lighting modifications. Once documented and cleared none reappeared.
đ Live data monitoring showed EGR movement, rail pressures and DPF data all good, but it was running a little cool. We finally managed to coax this up to 94°C, but when tested it soon plummeted back down to 77°C. Whilst the thermostat wasn’t gone completely it was a little lazy and could well be contributing to the drop in MPG.
đ¨âđ§ On with the clean and the bass note present soon subsided as it smoothed out and by the end the response returned.
