â ī¸ Vehicle not as quiet, smooth, responsive or economical as it used to be? Engine light on or been on recently?
đ Here we have a lovely Ford Focus RS (2009 – 33,038 miles) booked in for diagnostic consultation and Engine Carbon Clean.
âšī¸ The owner had wanted to get it running back to its best and with a recent engine light appearing he wanted to get us to check it over and clean it up.
đ Initial inspection found little of note in the engine bay with no obvious rattles or leaks, but a tell tale bass note present given the age and mileage. This was creating a boomy exhaust note rather than the usual burble these should have when running sweetly.
đģ Initial diagnostics found the culprit for the recent engine light with a stored code for the Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor. We documented the code history, emailed that to the owner and cleared it down to assess reappearing codes (of which there were none).
đ Live data monitoring showed good values across most of the components with coolant temperature maintained around 85°C, the Intake Air Temperature sensor reporting normal values and all other live data looking good.
đ¨âđ§ On with the clean and the bass note from the engine soon subsided as the engine smoothed out and by the end was quiet, smooth and a crisp response again with a lovely burble back.
