⚠️ Vehicle not running like it should? Engine lights on? Not as quiet, smooth, responsive or economical as it used to be?
🚙 Here we have a Ford Transit 2.2 TDCi (2006 – 153,801 miles) booked in for diagnostics and Engine Carbon Clean. The owner had contacted us as it wasn’t running well, lumpy idle and an engine management light (EML) coming on recently.
🔎 Initial inspection found the dashboard temperature showing it running cold. A slight hunting on idle also and generally quite noisy and rumbky.
💻 Initial diagnostics found lots of intermittent EGR codes along with a permanent code for the Electronic Vacuum Regulator (circuit fault).
📊 Live data confirmed the cold running and after testing the thermostat the highest we could get it to was around 78°C and with the cabin fans back on dropped down to a chilly 67°C.
🌡️This vehicle needs a new thermostat.
👨🔧 On with the clean and keeping it as warm as possible we ran it a little longer and by the end was much smoother, quieter and lighter underfoot, however as the engine noise subsided we did detect an underlying vibration from the clutch come to the fore. Now much quieter, smooth and responsive again and with an action plan of items to get addressed.
