đ Here we have a recently acquired Ford Mondeo 2.0 TDCi (2009 – 139,366 miles) booked in for diagnostics consultation and Engine Carbon Clean after being referred by a prior customer.
âšī¸ Although no apparent running issues, the owner was aware the parking sensors were not working.
đ Initial inspection found little of note in the engine bay with no obvious rattling, leaks or wobble, just the tell tale bass note from engine vibration from carbon buildup.
đģ Initial diagnostics showed a number of historic codes present:
đ¸ Right rear outer parking sensor (which reappeared when cleared)
đ¸ Bulb codes which cleared
đ¸ Numerous codes for cruise control and steering wheel controls. These would indicate a potential issue with the steering wheel electrics, but the owner had not yet used the cruise control function so was unaware.
đ Live data showed coolant temperature in and around 90°C and when testing the thermostat it only dipped to 86°C indicating the thermostat was good. DPF data showed low backpressure, just 13 miles since the last regeneration, but a running average of 360 miles between regenerations indicating a healthy DPF.
đ¨âđ§ On with the clean and the bass note in the engine soon dissipated as the engine smoothed out and quietened down and by the end was quiet, smooth and responsive again.
