⚠️ Why we focus on proper live data diagnostics in all our bookings (and you should too).
A simple code read is just not enough. Codes are effectively diary entries of symptoms, but quite often give little to no indication of the root cause. This can be a costly mistake.
🚗 Here we have a BMW 325d (2008 – 116,295 miles) booked in for diagnostic consultation and potential cleaning based on findings from the diagnostics.
ℹ️ Having been to various garages for DPF Cleans and regenerations over the last couple of years the owner had had enough of the problems reappearing and got in touch.
🔎 Initial inspection found no major issues in the engine bay with no rattles or leaks.
💻 Initial diagnostics showed generic DPF error codes in the engine section due to mileage, blockage and backpressure.
📊 Live data monitoring showed the DPF hadn’t successfully regenerated for 5,866 km!
This is despite various cleans and treatments being applied. All data looked OK apart from the DPF backpressure showing 118mbar and the coolant temperature eventually maxing out approx. 76°C – way too cold.
This vehicle needs both thermostats changing to get it running at the right temperature again and then the DPF unblocking.
👨🔧 The owner opted to get the Engine Carbon Clean performed anyway and the engine soon smoothed out and quietened down and by the end it was quieter, smooth and responsive again. The owner can now fix the underlying issue (temperature) and then resolve the DPF blockage and this will be back to its best.
