Black smoke on acceleration? Diagnostic Consultation and Engine Carbon Clean on a Ford Mondeo 2.0 TDCi (2008 – 156,945 miles)

⚠ī¸ Black smoke on acceleration? This is a sign of over fuelling and can be down to many things such as leaks, but is also a sign of carbon buildup.

🚗 Here we have a Ford Mondeo 2.0 TDCi (2008 – 156,945 miles) booked in for diagnostics consultation and Engine Carbon Clean.

ℹī¸ The owner booked it in as it was ‘sluggish at times’, but his main reason was it initially failed the MOT on emissions this time last year and didn’t want a repeat this year. Visible black smoke in 1st and 2nd gear was an issue.

🔎 Initial diagnostics of the whole vehicle showed some active and historic issues which we documented for the owner, cleared down and monitored what reappeared.

📊 Live data monitoring showed normal coolant and exhaust temperatures, good EGR movement and gas flow and the DPF in good health with low backpressure, 216 miles since the last regeneration and a running average of 285 miles between regenerations.

👨‍🔧 On with the clean and the initial bass rumble in the engine soon dissipated as the engine smoothed out and quietened down with the throttle response returning.

ℹī¸ Getting (and keeping) the engine running smooth will be fuel efficient and keep the emissions down.

📝 ‘Booked a carbon clean with Adrian for 12.30 on 26th September, he contacted me team he night before to check I was still ok to have it done that day and also kept me up to date on the day with an ETA and arrived just before 12.30 which was a bonus. Explained to Adrian the issue I had with my 57 plate Mondeo 2.0tdci when it initially failed its MOT last November due to emissions but just scraped through after putting diesel cleaner in the tank so I was looking to get clean done in the hope it would not happen again, I had also been experiencing black smoke under acceleration in 1st and 2nd gear and the car generally felt sluggish. Adrian explained that he would run a diagnostic first to check there were no issues with the engine which fortunately there wasn’t, he also explained what the few error messages that did appear were likely to be before proceeding with the clean. Before starting the clean Adrian explained exactly the clean worked and how it would clean the engine, he showed me every part of the process. The clean took around an hour to complete and I have to say it is the best ÂŖ99 I have spent in a long time, the car feels new again, I have no black smoke anymore, the car feels a lot smoother and the response under acceleration is a massively different. I would recommend everyone to get this done, Adrian was extremely professional and knowledgeable. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐’
