⚠️ Vehicle not as quiet, smooth, responsive or economical as it used to be?
Here we have a Ford Focus 1.6 TDCi (2013 – 100,870 miles) booked in for diagnostic consultation and Engine Carbon Clean. The owner had noticed a drop in performance and a stutter developing when changing gear every now and again.
Initial inspection found no obvious issues in the engine bay, but there was significant vibration, rumble and lack of response from the carbon present. Also a slight wobble perhaps from some early engine mount wear.
Initial diagnostics showed no issues present.
Live data monitoring showed coolant temperature at 95°C, good EGR flow and movement, recent DPF regeneration and injector fuelling looking all within limits (very slight over fuel on injector 1).
On with the clean and the engine soon smoothed out and quietened down and by the end it was much quieter, smooth and responsive again.
