⚠️ Vehicle failed or struggling to get through emissions on MOT? Poor fuel economy, smoke issues and general poor performance?

Here we have a VW Caddy 2.0 SDI (2007 – 95,208 miles) booked in for diagnostic consultation and Engine Carbon Clean.

ℹ️ The vehicle was booked in for investigation after failing emissions on the MOT.

Initial inspection found no obvious rattles or leaks, but there was a tell tale bass rumble to the engine and sluggishness underfoot. There was also a slight wobble detected amongst the overall engine vibration – a possible engine mount issue.

Initial diagnostics found little of note with some old codes which we documented, sent to the owner and cleared down.

Live data monitoring showed a different story though. Initial temperature was approx 68°C. Under the right conditions we managed to nurse is up to 83°C, but when tested it dropped to 72°C again within a minute.

❗A cold running vehicle will overfuel to compensate and will lower fuel economy and increase emissions. A new thermostat required in this one.

‍With it warmed back up again it was on with the clean and after just ten minutes the bass note started to go, the engine smoothed out and quietened down and by the end it was much quieter, smooth and responsive again. The wobble on idle remained which again indicated worn engine mount.

The owner can now get a new thermostat fitted and this should then get through the MOT.

This was my first experience with F5 carbon and DPF clean. I was a little desperate as I had been let down twice by a larger franchise company. Mark the technician managed to fit me in at short notice, what a stroke of luck for me I found Mark to be an extremely knowledgeable and professional guy. After running the diagnostic and clearing a few issues he managed to get my DPF working properly and able to do the regeneration process on its own so only charged for the diagnostic even though I had booked for a full DPF cleaning. I cannot recommend F5 enough it's a real pleasure to deal with them. All round excellent service. Thank you guys.

Steve arrived to give my Jaguar xfs an engine carbon clean. Presently on 107,000 miles. Explained the process and was obviously very knowledgeable about the process and expected outcomes. And he was a thoroughly nice chap.
The V6 in the xfs is a quiet, smooth, powerful unit and I was not sure of what improvements I would get. Well, I’m impressed. The power delivery is smoother, the engine even quieter and 6 mpg better to boot.
If you want to do one thing to maintain and improve your motor, then this is what you should do.

Iv had the pleasure of having 2 Carbon cleans from both Adrian and Mark. Both lovely gentlemen and you can tell they love what they do. My car failed on emissions and this helped me get the car through the test, and at the time, I REALLY needed a pass because I couldn’t get anywhere. These guys saved me.
