‘Hi mate, first of all I’d like to thank you for your time on Thursday. I managed to get the thermostat and the sensor done today. The temperature went up great I can tell it drives better, it smoked a little but the revs was high (doing a regen) after was fine again’

⚠️ Vehicle not running like it should? Poor fuel economy, smoke issues, noisy or sluggish?

Here we have a VW Crafter 2.5 TDI (2009 – 261,960 miles) booked in for diagnostic consultation and potential Engine Carbon Clean or DPF Clean based on the findings.

ℹ️ The owner had reported frequent issues with smoke (every day) from the vehicle with elevated RPM at idle along with poor fuel economy. After taking it to multiple garages he was no further forward as no codes were present.

Initial inspection found little of note in the engine bay with no obvious rattles or leaks.

Initial diagnostics found no engine codes present as suggested.

Live data monitoring showed good values across most components, however it was only running at 68°C coolant temperature despite having just been taken on a long run. When stress tested the hottest we could get this to was 74°C indicating an issue with the coolant system – most likely the thermostat (occasionally could be the temperature sensor or a pump/blockage issue).

‍After a discussion with the owner he requested we proceed with the Engine Carbon Clean so we gave it an extended session given it was running cool. The bass note from the engine soon subsided as the engine smoothed out and by the end was quiet, smooth and responsive again . The owner can now get the coolant system checked and thermostat/sensor replaced and hopefully this will then be back to normal running again.

I had issues with my DPF on my 4.4 Range Rover so hot in touch with F5 and Leon came out to me to carry out a DPF clean. Not only did he tell me exactly what he was going to do but carried out a full diagnostic on my car just to see if there was any underlying issues other than dpf. He gave a really good explanation of the process as he checked all the boost pipes and inter coolers for leaks He couldn’t have been anymore friendly than he was and certainly knew his stuff. Dpf all unblocked and engine is back to normal. Couldn’t recommend F5 enough.

Just had my car done by F5ECC. Adrian talked me though how the process works. This is the second Merc I have had done by him in 2020. C250cdi and now a C350e sport. Noticed straight away more mpg.
