⚠️ Vehicle not running right? We perform a full diagnostic consultation (not just a simple code check) looking at all the available live data with every booking where at all possible. ℹ️ It is a fundamental requirement that a vehicle is running at the right temperature to perform a clean properly and with some vehicles having no coolant display on the dashboard (and most ones with a display showing inaccurate temperatures) then we ALWAYS perform a live data diagnostic with every clean where at all possible.
Here’s one we didn’t clean – a BMW 123d (2008 – 108,677 miles). We had seen the owner on a previous occasion with a different vehicle – this one he had booked in for a diagnostic consultation and Engine Carbon Clean down to it not running as it should, but a few days prior to the booking the radiator fan had stayed on permanently.
Initial inspection found little else of note in the engine bay, but the main radiator fan was indeed on permanently.
Initial diagnostics found 2 active issues – a throttle actuator problem and also a code present for the coolant temperature sensor. The throttle actuator issue explained the performance issues he had been seeing.
Live data confirmed that the coolant temperature sensor was faulty with it flatlined at 139°C. The pipework has however only lukewarm to the touch due to the radiator fan (and probably the thermostat) trying to cool everything down from the faulty reading.
⚠️ No clean performed as it was running too cold and resolving the issues takes priority. The owner can now get the throttle actuator and the coolant temperature sensor looked at and call us back at a later date to perform the clean up.
