⚠️ Vehicle not as quiet, smooth, economical or responsive as it once was? Issues you need to diagnose?
Here we have a Ford Fiesta 1.6 TDCi (2010 – 86,298 miles) booked in by a returning customer after we did his Mondeo a few months ago.
Running well enough, but the owner had a couple of niggly issues to diagnose and given he saw a nice recovery in fuel economy with his last vehicle wanted to get this one cleaned up and checked out also.
Initial diagnostics showed some historic codes which we documented and cleared and monitored what returned. The owner had issues with the A/C system running hot and then cold and the diagnostics confirmed a permanent code for the Cabin Temperature Sensor. Other that that there were no real issues on the diagnostics, but when revved there was a very slight judder as the revs returned to idle which may suggest some EGR restriction.
Closer investigation of the live data for the EGR showed opening and closing when expected, but the readings were a little erratic – we advised the owner to keep an eye on the judder and if it gets worse to get the EGR checked.
On with the clean and the bass note in the engine soon diminished as the vibration subsided and by the end was lovely and quiet, smooth and responsive again.
