DPF Issues? Diagnostic consultation and Engine Carbon Clean – Volvo S40 (2006 – 48,301 miles)

⚠️ Engine/DPF lights on? Vehicle not running as quiet, smooth, economical or responsive as it should be?

Here we have a returning customer with a different vehicle – a Volvo S40 (2006 – 48,301 miles)

Having used us previously on another vehicle she asked us to take a look after the mechanic at the garage found a code and cleared it when serviced, but the engine management light came back on later the same day. He advised we come and take a look given the minimal amount of miles driven by the previous owner might mean it needed a clean due to lots of short journeys.

ℹ️ Engine Management Lights appear for a variety of reasons – they can be down to a failed component, a failing sensor giving incorrect readings or sensors detecting conditions which are abnormal.

Initial diagnostics showed a single code present relating to the DPF efficiency. The owner was doing long journeys every day and there was plenty of fuel present, so that ruled out short journeys being the culprit.

ℹ️ All relevant sensors and components appeared to be working fine, but the key thing which stuck out on the live data was the coolant temperature. Although having being driven for 20 minutes before our arrival it was running cool. With the cabin fans turned off and repeated revving we could only get the temperature up to 174-176°F and then once the cabin fans were started again the temperature dropped rapidly.

️ This would indicate the thermostat is not closing properly and the vehicle is struggling to maintain the required temperature to regenerate successfully.

‍We proceeded with an Engine Carbon Clean to clean up the source of the emissions and recommended the owner get the 13 year old thermostat replaced.

Had Adrian carbon cleaning my Audi 2021 A4 tdi .waited to see results over a period of time .car runs smoothly and accelerates with ease The car seems to get to 60 mpg very quickly and just goes up from there so impressed. Adrian Improved the 4 injectors performance but found no 3 slightly out of spec .Adrian went tho the cars diagnosis system very impressive I would highly recommend paul .thanks Adrian

I found this organisation on Google. It had great reviews and the service which I required which was a carbon clean. I found Adrian very helpful and knowledgeable. While he was carrying out the service he explained everything to me and how it works. The car feels better now with it being more responsive and quieter. This was my first experience with F5 carbon and DPF clean. I was a little desperate as I had been let down twice by a larger franchise company. Mark the technician managed to fit me in at short notice, what a stroke of luck for me I found Mark to be an extremely knowledgeable and professional guy. After running the diagnostic and clearing a few issues he managed to get my DPF working properly and able to do the regeneration process on its own so only charged for the diagnostic even though I had booked for a full DPF cleaning. I cannot recommend F5 enough it's a real pleasure to deal with them. All round excellent service. Thank you guys.

Steve arrived to give my Jaguar xfs an engine carbon clean. Presently on 107,000 miles. Explained the process and was obviously very knowledgeable about the process and expected outcomes. And he was a thoroughly nice chap.
The V6 in the xfs is a quiet, smooth, powerful unit and I was not sure of what improvements I would get. Well, I’m impressed. The power delivery is smoother, the engine even quieter and 6 mpg better to boot.
If you want to do one thing to maintain and improve your motor, then this is what you should do.

Iv had the pleasure of having 2 Carbon cleans from both Adrian and Mark. Both lovely gentlemen and you can tell they love what they do. My car failed on emissions and this helped me get the car through the test, and at the time, I REALLY needed a pass because I couldn’t get anywhere. These guys saved me.
