Initial inspection found an engine wobble and a significant amount of rumble and shake from the carbon present.
❗ The owner was typically doing short trips and using cheap fuel which had got the engine in this condition. The engine was struggling against the carbon buildup and this meant the engine mounts were degraded.
Initial code read found some unrelated historic codes spread across the vehicle that we documented and cleared for the owner.
Live data all showed injector fuelling was acceptable, coolant temperature values fine, etc.
On with the clean and it soon smoothed out, quietened down and by the end it was quiet, smooth and responsive again. The owner can now take it for retest, look to get the engine mounts inspected and replaced and switch to better fuel.

Can you carbon clean a petrol engine?
Yes. All hydrocarbon engines create carbon build up depending on the mileage, driving style, journey length and fuel quality used. What are signs of carbon build up?
Typical symptoms include a decline in fuel economy, noisier engine, increased vibration, sluggish response and smoke/emissions levels. As fuel economy and emission targets have got stricter over the years the engine components have been developed and added in order to keep the soot within the vehicle rather than passing it out through the exhaust. This then clogs up EGR valves, inlet manifolds and DPFs.
When should you Engine Carbon Clean?
If you have just bought a vehicle or warranty is due to expire then it is a perfect time to get it checked out and cleaned up. As part of your regular maintenance plan an ideal time is just prior to a service or MOT to help keep your vehicle running smoothly, quietly, economically and with low emissions.
