Here we have a VW Golf TDI (2009 – 99,626 miles) booked in for diagnostic consultation and Engine Carbon Clean after it had FAILED MOT on emissions. Re-tested immediately after the clean and it PASSED
Initial inspection found no major issues in the engine bay with no rattles or leaks, just a very slight wobble from engine mounts and a slight chatter from the flywheel along with a heavy bass note from the carbon present.
Initial diagnostics showed no errors in the engine section, with just a couple of other bits and pieces in other sections of the car.
Live data monitoring showed the engine coolant maxing out at 92°C and all other data within limits. The temperature did drop further than would have liked when tested, but did pick back up again (lazy thermostat).
On with the clean and the engine soon smoothed out and quietened down and by the end it was quieter, smooth and responsive again.
