🚗 Here we have a VW Touran 2.0 TDI (2005 – 201,289 miles) booked in for diagnostic consultation and Engine Carbon Clean after it was getting poor fuel economy.

🔎 Initial inspection found a wobble at idle linked to both engine mounts and dual mass flywheel. Also a smell of fuel in the engine bay and a little bit of sitting fuel indicating a potential leak around the fuel rail. No obvious chuffing noise from the injectors though and when revved no obvious sign of additional fuel so we proceeded carefully.

💻 Initial diagnostics showed an engine code for glowplug 2, plus a couple of other bits and pieces in other sections of the car including the A/C pressure sensor.

📊 Live data monitoring showed the engine coolant at 97°C (thermostat OK) and all other data within limits. Injector 4 was fuelling higher than the others, but given the wobble at idle this could easily be a symptom of that.

👨‍🔧 On with the clean and the engine soon smoothed out and quietened down and by the end it was quieter, smooth and responsive again.

The owner now has a list of bits to get resolved when serviced.
