Here we have a Mercedes C220 (2010 – 70,537 miles) booked in for diagnostics consultation and Engine Carbon Clean.
ℹ️ The owner has only recently purchased the vehicle and having a limited #warranty with it wanted to get it checked out and cleaned up before putting too many miles on it.
Initial inspection of the engine bay found a fair amount of vibration from the rather new looking engine cover and whilst the same size and shape as the original cover it was missing a foot hole compared to the original. There was a tell-tale rumble from the dirty engine also present. With no obvious leaks or other rattles then on with the diagnostics.
A recent code clear left the vehicle with very few codes present, but what was there we documented and cleared for the owner.
Live data looked fine across the board, but the most interesting thing was the historic DPF data. The DPF data looked like it had been reset prior to purchase with a minimal number of regenerations during the DPF lifetime and an Ash content reset prior to purchase – this may have been down to a clean or perhaps a replacement. Thermostat temperatures looked fine.
❗ Whilst the live data looked fine, the owner is now aware and can keep an eye on the DPF going forward.
On with the clean and it soon smoothed out and quietened down and by the end was quiet, smooth and responsive again.
