Here we have a VW Scirocco 2.0 TDI (2009 – 101,690 miles) booked in for diagnostics and Engine Carbon Clean as a preventative measure. The owner wanted to look after the vehicle given it was doing a short commute to work.
Initial inspection found little of note in the engine bay apart from the usual bass note from the buildup present. Thankfully no engine mount wobble on this one.
Initial diagnostic code check looked pretty clear apart from an intermittent code for P159D Oil Level Thermal Sensor Implausible Signal – we recommended this to be changed asap.
Live data looked pretty good across the board with all EGR, DPF and injector data looking fine, but the temperature was a slight concern. Hottest we could get this to was 88°C and with fans on dropped rapidly to 78°C. Given the short journeys then a thermostat may be required to ensure regeneration continues successfully.
On with the clean and the engine soon smoothed out and quietened down and by the end was quiet, smooth and responsive again.
