Here we have a Ford Focus 1.6 TDCi (2010 – 87,946 miles) booked in for diagnostic consultation and Engine Carbon Clean.
ℹ️ The vehicle had recently started popping the Engine Management Light and engine malfunction message. Having used us a couple of years ago the owner booked us in for a diagnostic consultation and/or Engine Carbon Clean.
Initial inspection found no obvious rattles, but a leak in one of the rubber hoses.
Initial diagnostics showed turbo underboost codes and MAF sensor codes which correlated with the split pipe.
Live data monitoring showed all other data looking fine apart from it running a little cool at a maximum of 81°C. A new thermostat also would be advisable to maximise the return on fuel economy and bring the emissions down.
We patched up the pipe as a temporary measure and proceeded with the clean.
The engine soon smoothed out and quietened down and by the end it was much quieter, smooth and responsive again. With a replaced pipe and thermostat this should be back to its best.
