Failed MOT on emissions?
Here's one we dealt with a few days ago and after a Which? Trusted Traders approved Engine Carbon Clean…
✔️ PASSED on retest
Here we have a VW Touran (2005 – 124,503 miles) booked in for diagnostics and Engine Carbon Clean after being recommended to us by the MOT test centre after failing emissions test.
Initial inspection found no obvious boost or injector leaks.
Initial code checks showed little of note, but live data did show it running slightly cold, taking a long time to get up to temperature and with the cabin fans turned on the temperature dropping rapidly – sign of a thermostat issue ️
⚙️ On with the clean and a significant amount of bass rumble from the engine at the start a sign of levels of buildup.
ℹ️ This was likely to be worse with it potentially running cold a lot of the time and doing short journeys.
By the end was much quieter, smooth and responsive again and upon presentation for retest was a PASS and back on the road
The owner can now get the thermostat done to get it running efficiently again.
