⚠️ Vehicle not as quiet, smooth, responsive or economical as it used to be?
Engine Carbon Clean Nissan Qashqai
Here we have a Nissan Qashqai+2 1.5 dci (2009 – 174,870 miles) booked in for diagnostics and Engine Carbon Clean after the owner had noticed performance dropping off, getting progressively noisier and also some puffs of smoke. Having owned it for over a year it had always had a noisy vibration from the front left.
Initial inspection found quite a significant vibration coming from the intake system so we investigated further. The air filter was very dirty indeed and whilst we performed the clean the owner quickly popped out to get a replacement. With the new filter in place the vibration lessened, but was still quite loud. Closer inspection found what looked like a repair to the intake system at some point in the past. The owner suggested he would take the headlight out after we had finished and look to see where the problem was. Given the state of the air filter it was likely that there was a disconnected or broken plastic pipe, just not what we could immediately access.

Initial diagnostics showed some old codes for the key and fuel pressure, but current codes relating to the glowplug relay/controller.
Live data monitoring showed all temperatures where they should be and DPF had last regenerated 41 miles previously.
On with the Nissan Qashqai carbon clean and intake system aside the vehicle soon quietened down, smoothed out and the throttle response returned.
❗ The owner contacted us later to say that once dismantled and reassembled the intake pipework no longer rattled…
