🚗 Here we have a lovely Jaguar S-Type 2.7d V6 (2006 – 89,220 miles) booked in after the owner had a few issues recently with a DPF problem. Having recently had a DPF almost block up and need some maintenance he decided to get in touch so we could give it a health check and get the source of the soot cleaned up.
🔎 Initial inspection of the engine bay found little of note, but on idle there was a tell tale bass note in the engine and on occasion what felt like an occasional brief lumpiness.
💻 Initial diagnostics found a number of active and historic issues logged for other parts of the vehicle, but the engine section was clear. With those documented and cleared we proceeded to look through the live data.
📊 Live data showed the DPF had last regenerated successfully 279 miles ago with an optimal distance of 403 miles between regens. EGR movement on both EGRs looked fine and temperatures all looked fine. We did notice injector 1 was a balancing a little higher than normal when idling at the start.
👨🔧 On with the clean and the bass note soon dissipated as the engine smoothed out and quietened down. Every now and again the lumpy idle appeared briefly, but this became less and less frequent as we proceeded. The balancing for injector 1 did trim in by the end, but we advised the owner to keep an eye on it in future.
