Here we have a VW Scirocco 2.0 petrol TDI (2009 – 76,943 miles) booked in for diagnostics and Engine Carbon Clean after the owner was concerned regarding increasing smells from the exhaust, declining performance and an uneven idle which had developed.
Initial inspection found little of note in the engine bay with no obvious rattles, leaks and although a bass purr was present it was running OK given the mileage. There was an increased emissions smell and the idle was rough .
Initial diagnostics found little of note regarding the engine section so we documented and cleared what was present for the owner.
Live data showed good coolant temperatures, but the system a little rich which would explain the emission smells. Other than that all else looked fairly normal.
On with the clean and the bass note soon dissipated and with time the idle smoothed out and the response returned.
