⚠️ Had a recall performed and your vehicle not running right afterwards?
🚗 Here we have a BMW 320d (2014 – 112,444 miles) booked in for diagnostics and optionally an Engine Carbon Clean.
ℹ️ The owner booked in for us to diagnose after the engine light kept coming on after a BMW recall for the EGR valve. Originally summoned for recall back in April/May this year the vehicle keeps getting an EGR related code ever since along with an Engine Management Light (EML). Although driving properly, the EML will impact the owner at the next MOT. Unfortunately he seems to be getting nowhere with the manufacturer and so wanted to get us to take a look.
🔎 Initial inspection of the engine bay found little of note with no obvious rattles or leaks.
💻 Initial diagnostics found a code relating to the EGR with an airflow plausibility error with measured air mass too high (vs calculated).
📊 Live data monitoring showed the EGR apparently opening and closing at the right times, but perhaps opening too far. All other data regarding DPF, etc. all looked fine.
🤔 There is a short list of potential issues such as the EGR needing calibration (perhaps opening too far), a leak of some sorts or an issue with either sensor, but this is something that needs to be addressed by the manufacturer given it only started after the recall.
👨🔧 Whilst we were there the owner opted to get the Engine Carbon Clean performed anyway so we proceeded with the clean and by the end it was quiet, smooth and responsive again.
