Here we have a lovely imported and modified Toyota Chaser JZX100 (2001 – 84,934km). This one has been modified with a 3.0 litre 2JZ engine
❗ The owner had an issue where once it was warm approx 50% of the time when started it would rev to 3krpm and the throttle did nothing – the onlly way to then stop it would be to turn it off and try again. We advised that it was likely a clean wouldn’t resolve that issue, but having used us on a previous vehicle he wanted to get it cleaned up anyway.
On arrival the vehicle was running and warmed up ready for the clean so rather than risk the ‘stuck at 3k rpm’ issue we connected up with the engine still running. There was a tell tale purr from the engine and a visible vibration and an associated boom from the rear. There was also no coolant temperature showing as the sensor was dead.
On with the clean and with no coolant temperature sensor to work with it was slow and steady, but over time the engine smoothed out and quietened down. The boomy exhaust note turned to a lovely burble and by the end the engine itself was whisper quiet. The owner commented on the fact the vibration he could normally observe was no longer present.
ℹ️ At the end we turned the car off to disconnect and then tempted fate with a warm start. It started fine 3 times in a row, something the owner said he had never seen.
After we left he started it again 3 more times with no issue and again the following day with no issue. Fingers crossed the issue is now resolved.
