ℹ️ A customer of ours who is an ambulance provider has acquired a Mercedes Sprinter (2015 – 101,202 miles) for conversion – booked in with us to get it assessed and then clean up the engine for the road ahead.
🔎 Initial inspection showed nothing of concern, but a low level rumble in the background due to the carbon present, plus a tell tale fume smell and free breathing exhaust.
💻 Initial diagnostics showed no engine codes present, however…
📊 Live data monitoring showed all data within spec apart from two things
1 – all the DPF data regarding regeneration history, backpressure and soot levels were flatlined at 0.
2 – coolant temperature was sitting at 75°C and no matter how hard we tried it wouldn’t go above 78°C
❗Looks like the DPF has been gutted and mapped out and the likely original cause was an undiagnosed thermostat issue.
👨🔧 On with the clean and the engine soon smoothed out and quietened down and by the end it was quieter, smooth and responsive again.
ℹ️ they can now get the DPF replaced, remapped again and replace the thermostat to get this running like it should.
