â ī¸ Just bought a vehicle? Not running right? Have warranty? Use it.
đ Here we have a Skoda Superb 2.0 TDI (2009 – 56,089 miles) booked in for diagnostics and Engine Carbon Clean.
âšī¸ Having recently bought it the owner had been reported having a number of issues with it including a hesitation on acceleration and a smell of fumes coming into the cabin.
đ Initial inspection on arrival found no obvious signs of any major leak or hissing, but the smell of fumes was there and also coming into the cabin. Initial diagnostic code checks found little of note.
đ Live data monitoring showed that the DPF was in good health (last regen 49 miles ago) soot levels and exhaust gas temperature sensors all working and coolant temperature up at 189°F as expected. Injector correction was good with low values.
đ¨âđ§ After discussing with the owner we agreed to proceed with the clean and monitor carefully as we went looking for signals of an issue on the live data and keeping a close eye on the engine bay. As we proceeded with the clean the owner and ourselves spotted a small puff of smoke from down the back of the engine and on close inspection we could trace a small the source back to in and around the turbo – potentially a very small hole which wasn’t enough to trigger any codes, but enough to cause the reported hesitation.
We recommended the owner take the vehicle and have a smoke test performed and sure enough he reported back that there was indeed a small hole there.
Time to get that patched up or the component replaced under warranty.
