🚗 Here we have a Vauxhall Insignia 2.0 CDTI (2010 – 102,845 miles) booked in for diagnostic consultation and Engine Carbon Clean.
The owner had recently purchased this from a garage and it came with 3 months warranty and with 2 weeks left on it we were booked to check it out and clean it up for the road ahead.
🔎📊 Initial visual inspection and an initial code read suggested all was good to proceed with no engine codes present so we connected up in readiness to perform the clean. The engine was relatively sweet sounding for the age and mileage.
🔎🔎 Further inspecrion of the live data started to show that all was not what it seemed though 🤔
Scrolling down the live data we encountered the following:
1️⃣ DPF backpressure flatlined at 0 on one set of diagnostic equipment and flatlined at 5.51psi on the other. A. Normal value for a healthy DPF would be approx 0.15psi – but no code present.
2️⃣ Exhaust gas temperature sensor showing 32°F (0°C) – a typical sign of not working – but no code present.
3️⃣ Distance since last regeneration = 13,629 miles. If this were the case the car would no longer be running if the DPF were active – again no codes present for soot content or DPF regeneration duration, etc.
4️⃣ All other DPF statistics for average regeneration duration, mileage, etc. at zero. – again a clear indication of the DPF being removed.
At this point we informed the owner and asked them whether they wanted to proceed or not. They asked us to proceed with the clean anyway so we did and we documented our findings and provided the owner with it so they can contact the garage.
By the end of the clean it was quiet, smooth and responsive again and the owner can now sort out with the garage what they want to do next.
