🚗 Here we have a BMW 118d (2011 – 183,454 miles) booked in for diagnostic consultation and Engine Carbon Clean after it had just FAILED MOT on emissions.
For info, the owner bought it just under a year ago as a private sale and it came with an MOT.
🔎📊 Initial visual inspection and an initial code read suggested all was good to proceed with no engine codes present so we connected up in readiness to perform the clean.
🔎🔎 Further inspecrion of the live data started to show that all was not what it seemed though 🤔
Scrolling down the live data we encountered the following:
1️⃣ EGR data flatlined at 0
2️⃣ Time since last regeneration was sat at zero and not counting up as usual.
3️⃣ Distance since last regeneration = 0 miles
4️⃣ DPF statistic for mileage remaining at 250,000km – the value set after a data reset.
At this point we informed the owner the DPF and EGR had been deleted and mapped out and asked them whether they wanted to proceed or not with the clean. They asked us to proceed with the clean anyway so we did and we documented our findings for them.
By the end of the clean it was quiet, smooth and responsive again and the owner can now sort out what they want to do next with the vehicle.
