Erratic idle? Running issues?
Here we have a Vauxhall Corsa 1.7 CDTI (2008 – 122,210 miles) booked in for diagnostics and Engine Carbon Clean after the vehicle kept cutting out and had an erratic idle.
Having used us previously the owner booked us to come and look at 2 vehicles, one for a standard diagnostic and clean and this one here.
🔍 Initial health check found no obvious leaks from injectors, boost system, etc. The engine was very noisy with a tell-tale bass rumble from buildup.
📊 Diagnostics showed no engine issues in terms of codes present, but looking at the live data for the MAF sensor it appeared erratic. Unplugging the sensor the engine ran smoother and that in conjunction with the live data readings suggests a failing (but not yet failed) MAF sensor – hence the lack of codes present.
⚙️ We plugged the MAF back in and proceeded with the clean and just 10 minutes in the idle had smoothed out to some degree and the engine stopped cutting out, but the idle remained a little uneven. By the end it was comparatively smooth and quiet. Hopefully once the MAF sensor is replaced it will be smooth running again.
