Engine Light on? Diagnostic and Engine Carbon Clean on a VW Passat 2.0 TDI (2010 – 130, 693 miles)

🗣️ ‘Hi Adrian, yeah its driving good, a lot more responsive…really happy, feels like new’

⚠️ Engine Light on? Vehicle not running right?

🚗 Here we have a VW Passat 2.0 TDI (2010 – 130, 693 miles) booked in for a diagnostics consultation and Engine Carbon Clean. The owner had already planned to get the Engine Carbon Clean performed, but an intermittent engine light had come on and stayed on so he got us in asap.

🔎📊 Initial diagnostics (looking at the code history) showed an active code for Coolant Pump 2 Open Circuit which returned quickly once cleared. Looking further at all the available live data showed injectors fuelling well and temperatures across all the sensors (coolant, exhaust, oil, etc.) reporting normal values. With no other issues present we documented the above for the owner and proceeded with the clean.

❗ With an occasional tank full of the supreme fuel the vehicle was running fairly well already, but there was an initial hesitancy and lack of response when the throttle pedal was pressed and also an overall bass noise to the engine from excessive vibration indicating the amount of carbon present in the system – all sapping the fuel economy and increasing emission levels.

👨‍🔧 On with the clean and the engine note soon smoothed out, quietened down and the response returned and by the end was running sweetly again. The owner can now get the coolant pump issue rectified.
