⚠️ DPF Issues? Get it diagnosed to find the underlying cause.
🚗 Here we have a Citroën DS3 1.6 HDi (2012 – 81,407 miles) which has been struggling to regenerate for quite a while. The owner is having to thrash it up the motorway to get it to regenerate which if running properly should not be required.
ℹ️ If high rev driving is required to get your vehicle to regenerate then typically there will be an underlying issue with either the glowplug system or the thermostat.
🔎📊 Initial diagnostics on this vehicle found a few codes (one of which relating to an intermittent issue with the EGR) plus a couple of other intermittent issues which were documented for the owner and cleared down.
Live data confirmed the DPF had successfully regenerated 176 km ago and backpressure on the DPF at a relatively normal level.
🌡️ The key issue looks like a combination of the EGR error, but also the coolant temperature was lower than it should be. The hottest we could get the vehicle was 79°C and with the cabin fans on the temperature dropped indicating a thermostat issue (not closing properly).
👨🔧 With this documented for the owner we proceeded with the clean and by the end was quiet, smooth and responsive again.
ℹ️ With a clean front end it will limit the amount of soot entering the DPF in future.
