🚗 Here we have an Audi A6 3.0 TDI (2010 – 125,915 miles) booked in for diagnostic consultation and Engine Carbon Clean.
ℹ️ The owner had recently purchased it and having used us previously wanted to get us to check it out and clean it up asap.
🔎 Initial inspection found little of note in the engine bay with no obvious rattles or leaks. There was a tell tale bass rumble to the engine and associated boom to the exhaust. There was a fair amount of engine vibration also.
💻 Initial diagnostics found a couple of old codes in the engine section which we documented and cleared for the owner.
📊 Live data monitoring showed decent values for most components with injectors looking good, however it was running cold at 84°C at best despite being warmed up extensively and dropping rapidly when performing a test.
ℹ️ A cold running engine will overfuel to compensate and cause a drop in fuel economy and an increase in emissions. A new thermostat required for this one.
👨🔧 On with the clean and after just ten minutes the bass note started to go, the engine smoothed out and quietened down and by the end it was much quieter, smooth and responsive again.
