â ī¸ Just bought a vehicle?
đ¯ DPF issues found may indicate the historic DPF data was wiped and reset just prior to purchase.
đ Here we have a recently purchased VW Golf 2.0 TDI (2007 â 142.029 miles) booked in for diagnostic consultation and Engine Carbon Clean.
âšī¸ The owner had booked in to get it checked out and cleaned up as it had a lumpy idle and overall performance /fuel economy was not ideal.
đ Initial inspection found no apparent issues in the engine bay with no rattles or leaks, just a bass note from the carbon present.
đģ Initial diagnostics showed multiple intermittent codes in the engine section relating to a number of different issues. This along with various other minor codes in other parts of the car were documented for the owner and then cleared.
đ Live data monitoring looked good for injectors, EGR and temperature sensors, but showed a number of additional issues…
– The coolant temperature would not get above 87°C when stressed and fell sharply and carried on dropping into the 70s when the heating was put on, indicating a new thermostat was required.
– DPF values showed a lack of regeneration history prior to purchase date with 3 failed attempts since purchase. Although the DPF was not yet blocked it would soon flag up to complain. This is likely due to the thermostat issue.
đ¨âđ§ On with the clean and the engine soon smoothed out and quietened down and by the end it was much quieter, smooth and responsive again. The owner can now get the thermostat dealt with, hopefully get it to regenerate and then address the other issues.
