🚗 Here we have a Mercedes C180 (1996 – 55,360 miles) booked in for diagnostic consultation and Engine Carbon Clean.
ℹ️ The vehicle was purchased by the owner 15 years ago and has had just 40,000 miles during that time. SORN over the last year with lockdowns and now he wants to get it running back to its best.
🔎 Initial inspection found no obvious rattles or leaks, but there was a tell tale bass purr to the engine and associated boom to the exhaust. Given the age though running very nicely, but the main issue was it wouldn’t maintain an idle.
💻 Initial diagnostics gave minimal information which we documented and cleared for the owner. Some issues after a recent brake pad change to sort out along with a couple of sensors to address.
📊 Live data monitoring showed minimal data, but what was available looked fine.
👨🔧 On with the clean and a bit of a struggle initially as it wouldn’t idle without stalling, but after just ten minutes the bass purr started to go, the engine smoothed out and maintained an idle, had quietened down and by the end it was much quieter, smooth and responsive again, ticking over sweetly.
