🚗 Here we have a recently acquired Ford S-Max 2.0 TDCI (2007 – 99,897 miles) booked in as the owner was concerned it was a bit noisier than it should be and wanted to get it checked out and cleaned up.
🔎📊 Initial diagnostics showed some old codes related to fuel pressure regulator, but otherwise was fairly clear. Once documented and cleared the only remaining codes were for the puddle lamp under the left door mirror housing.
Further inspection found the vehicle running hot and the fan on most of the time. Diving down into the live data we found the diagnostics reporting that although opening and closing at the right times the EGR was fully open on idle instead of approx 40% open. This would account for the boomy noise on idle and potentially contributing to the heating issues (although low coolant levels weren’t helping).
👨🔧 On with the clean slow and steady due to the vehicle running hot and by the end was quiet, smooth and responsive again – the owner can now get the EGR investigated to check whether working properly.
