⚠️ Poor fuel economy? Running issues? Not as quiet, smooth and responsive as it once was?
🚗 Here we have a Ford Mondeo 2.0 TDCi (2004 – 155,185 miles) booked in for diagnostics and Engine Carbon Clean.
🔎 Initial inspection found a lot of bass noise from the engine and a background wobble present, typical of engine mount wear.
💻 Initial diagnostics found a couple of historical codes which had popped on since the owner had last had them cleared.
📊 Live data showed it was running cold and after we had managed to finally get this up to 87°C that when we turned the fans on to check the thermostat that the temperature dropped down to 70°C within a minute – new thermostat required.
🌡️ A cold running engine will use more fuel, create more emissions and leave more carbon behind.
👨🔧 On with the clean and the engine vibration soon lessened and as it did the engine wobble became more obvious. By the end it was quiet, smooth and responsive again, albeit with the wobble from the engine mounts remaining and a new thermostat required to get this back to its best.
