🚗 Here we have a much loved BMW 116d (2015 – 58,098 miles) booked in for diagnostics and Engine Carbon Clean. No particular running issues, but the owner wanted to restore it back to former glory and keep it sweet, plus identify any underlying issues he ought to take care of.
🔎 Initial inspection found little of note in the engine bay, but did pick up a slight metallic rattle from underneath the vehicle (potential loose bracket or heat shield).
📊 Initial diagnostics found some historic codes relating to rail pressure plausibility which we documented and cleared for the owner and they did not return. The owner does get an occasional warning message when accelerating hard so he can keep tabs on this going forward. A recent fuel filter change may help.
📊 Live data showed all values looking good with desired vs actual rail pressures looking fine, DPF data looking healthy and coolant temperatures staying within range when testing the thermostat.
👨🔧 On with the clean and just 7 minutes in the owner detected the engine note starting to change and by the end it was lovely and quiet, smooth and responsive again.
