Dashboard coolant temperature low? Don’t ignore it. Diagnostics & Engine Carbon Clean on an Audi A4 1.9 TDI (2002 – 179,209 miles)

🌡️Keep an eye on your dashboard engine temperatures. If they are low (norm is usually halfway) then your engine will be running cold, inefficiently and using more fuel than it should.

ℹ️ A replacement thermostat (and/or temperature sensor) should get it running at the right temperature bringing the fuel efficiency back.

🚗 Here we have an Audi A4 1.9 TDI (2002 – 179,209 miles) booked in for our Which? Trusted Traders approved diagnostic consultation and Engine Carbon Clean.

📊 Initial checks showed the coolant temperature not getting past 153°F which means either the thermostat is stuck open or there is an issue with the sensor.

Other codes were documented for the owner, cleared down and monitored as they reappeared. The aircon was not operational due to the high pressure sensor being dead reappeared immediately.

👨‍🔧 Just about warm enough to clean so we proceeded, but added extra time to compensate for the cool running engine. After 80 minutes this one was running quieter and smooth again and the owner can get the thermostat done as a priority when serviced which is due within the next week.
