Couldn’t recommend enough, Brilliant 👌’

🚗 BMW 330d (2007 – 125,753 miles)

🙋Reason for booking in…
‘I’ve got poor cold start and smells abit like diesel while running, it’s been to specialist but with no faults found I’m not sure that’s the case’

🔎 Initial inspection found no obvious issues in the engine bay with no excessive rattles and shakes, but a tell tale rumble in the engine from the carbon present and an exhaust note not quite right with an excessive headache inducing smell.

📊 Initial code read found…
Plenty of error codes including glow plugs, fuel filter, smooth running controller, etc. All 6 glow plugs suggest the glow plug control/relay is the culprit of the cold start issues.

🔎 Live data is where things started getting interesting.
1 – DPF backpressure was FLATLINED at 8192mbar (healthy values are usually around 6-15mbar).
2 – DPF regeneration last occurred 56,072 miles ago

🗣️ After discussing with the owner it was clear that the DPF had been removed and remapped long ago. The likely original cause of the DPF issue is the glow plug system not working. The owner was unaware of this history from the seller and also the ‘specialist’ hadn’t picked up on this.

🧑‍🔧 We continued with the clean and It soon smoothed out, quietened down and by the end it was quiet, smooth and responsive again.

❗ The owner can now decide what to do next regarding the glow plugs, DPF and smooth running issue.

  1. This sounds like something I need for my 2013 BMW 535d. I just had the EGR valve and cooler replaced under a BMW recall, but ever since I had it back from Jardines BMW I have a loss of power on acceleration and a diesel smell inside the car. The car never had this issue prior to me giving it to them. They reported that the car had a loss of power on test drive, and said that there was probably an issue with the inlet manifold swirl flaps and wanted to charge me for the diagnostics. I refused to pay, and I’m demanding that they sort out the issue. Surely when you replace the EGR and cooler, you would need to remove the inlet manifold hose to do that?? Therefore cleaning any soot deposits and checking the condition of the inlet manifold at the same time! I’ll wait and see what the service manger has to say about that tomorrow. So I will probably require your services Adrian! 😊
